Javier Ormazabal Echevarria, President of Velatia, was recognised on 18 January with the 26th Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for the Northern Region of Spain during a lunch held in the city of Bilbao, which was attended by numerous representatives of the local business and institutional world. Xabier Ochandiano, Councillor for Economic Development, Commerce and Employment of the Bilbao City Council, was in charge of presenting the award to the winner.
The President of Velatia thanked EY for the award and highlighted the work of “all the people who have contributed to the development of Velatia over the last 55 years. Starting with my parents and the rest of the family and including all the people who make up Velatia, our customers and suppliers, because you cannot build a project like Velatia without a great team that responds to the needs of customers, suppliers that support you and a social environment that accepts and values you.”
Javier Ormazabal will compete in the national final of the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Award, along with the rest of the finalists from the different regions into which the award is divided. Subsequently, the national winner of this edition will compete in Monte Carlo with around 60 representatives from all over the world for the EY Entrepreneur Award.
The luncheon was attended by Andrés Sendagorta, President of the Instituto de la Empresa Familiar (Family Enterprise Institute) and Alvaro de la Rica, Dean at Deusto Business School. In addition to previous awardees such as José Galíndez, founder of Solarpack; José María Bergareche, President of the daily newspaper El Diario Vasco, and Iñaki Velasco, founder and CEO of Gescrap.
