The Vice President of Velatia offered his view of Covid-19 management at the \u201cDigital Technologies in COVID-19 Management<\/em>\u201d seminar, organised by Men\u00e9ndez Pelayo International University in collaboration with AMETIC<\/strong><\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

On Monday 31 August, Alejandro Ormazabal, Vice President of Velatia, shared this industrial and technological company\u2019s experience and view of digital technology-driven COVID-19 pandemic management. In a speech lasting nearly half an hour, Ormazabal emphasised \u201cthe great advantage\u201d that ICTs offer public institutions, the private sector and the general public when it comes to dealing with a worldwide situation as exceptional as the one that we are currently living through.<\/p>\n

In the words of Velatia\u2019s Vice President, \u201cwe have experienced the duality of working as an essential sector in the electrification and digital transformation of our customers<\/a>. There have been no shortages of water, electricity, communications or food, and we have been able to work remotely using collaborative tools, which would have been unthinkable just a few years ago. Technology is exponential and the only way to deal with an exponential pandemic; along with other European companies we need to lead a resilient reconstruction based on digitalisation and sustainability\u201d.<\/p>\n

The seminar, which took place at the Magdalena Palace in Santander and acted as a prelude to AMETIC\u2019s<\/a> 34th<\/sup> Digital Economy and Telecommunications Conference, to be held on 2-4 September, also served to highlight the various problems that society is facing from the health and economic point of view. In this regard, Alejandro Ormazabal stressed that \u201cthe next national government budget should continue to invest in digitalisation, beyond telecommunications infrastructure\u201d, given that \u201cinvesting in the digital transformation of businesses, and thus making them more competitive, is fundamental\u201d.<\/p>\n

Alejandro Ormazabal insisted that \u201cour companies have been part of the solution\u201d. An example of this is the work done by Ikusi. \u201cIn terms of digitalisation, we have encountered very different situations. Customers who needed to implement the whole telework, user service and cybersecurity environment as quickly as possible,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

AMETIC, committed to country digitalisation <\/strong><\/h3>\n

In addition to his business role in the private sector, Alejandro Ormazabal is Chairman of the Electronics Industry Area at AMETIC, and so part of his speech outlined how this organisation is facing up to a future conditioned by the impact of COVID-19 on our society. \u201cWe are committed to following the EU\u2019s lead in moving towards technological sovereignty. We must work towards a scenario in which reliable data is EU owned. This will be essential for creating the small and medium-size businesses we are losing at the moment,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

On the \u201cDigital Technologies in COVID-19 Management\u201d seminar<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The seminar will focus on the impact of COVID-19 on digital transformation in the reindustrialization of Spain, as an event and an opportunity affecting all public and private sectors. Our aim is to offer attendees an insight into the reality of the technological world and its impact on the economy and society, through keynote speeches delivered by a wide range of renowned professionals and leading representatives from the electronics, telecommunications, IT and digital content industries, in which the sector will be analysed.<\/p>\n
